Fun Free Family Events for Canada Day 2008

As you could imagine, there are a ton of fun free family events going on in Toronto, Mississauga, and the rest of the GTA this Canada day weekend. This is a good thing because, thanks to the ever increasing cost of fuel, we will not be venturing very far outside the Greater Toronto Area.

Workplace and office safety issues

An interesting blog entry was posted not too long ago on the Norsteel Buildings blog about workplace safety issues. The short entry included a Top 10 workplace injuries list, with number one being overexertion. I have to be honest, although it seems obvious to me now, I would not have thought “overexertion” would be the number one cause of prolonged sick days.

To me, overexertion in a warehouse or commercial building site is the equivelent to ergonomics issues at the office. It is a major and very preventable cause of time off, stress, and general unhappiness, yet both employers and employees do not seem to think much nearly as much as they should.

As a provider of wireless headsets for the home office, I am constantly talking to my customers about the ergonomic benefits of headsets in the office  place. Most of my customers, however, seem to want to gloss over that part and talk about other benefits, such as price savings, clarity / quality of sound, etc. I am not complaining, mind you, I am simply surprised.

Office Ergonomics Tip of the Week

Courtesy of CCOHS, here is one of my all time favourite stretching excersizes that can be done at my desk, in my office:

Sitting with your elbows on the table and palms together, slowly lower wrists to the table until you feel a stretch (your elbows will move outward a bit). Be sure to keep your palms together throughout the stretch. Hold 5 to 7 seconds. Relax. Repeat 3 times.

I like to slowly lower my chin to my finger tips as well. This is a nice simple stetch that can be done while taking a conference call or talking on your ergonomic computer headset.

Woofstock This Weekend: Fun Free Family Event in Toronto

As many of you are aware, Headset Express in Mississauga is always on the lookout for fun, family friendly events in the GTA.

 

WOOFSTOCK is a huge, FREE event that will be held in the Toronto area this weekend.
