Your headsets probably aren’t playing holiday music! Here are some fun family events to fill your eyes and ears with holiday cheer!

Niagara Falls Winter Festival of Lights. This FREE festival kicks off this week in Niagara Falls with an incredible display of lights and outdoor activities for the whole family. Visit the Niagara Parks Winter Wonderland where more than 125 Disney lighting displays and over 3 million glittering ground and tree lights. On Duffering Islands you can see prehistoric and modern Canadian wildlife displays including moose, buffalos, rams, bears, etc. all lit up with over 220 000 LED lights. Lots more to see on site! You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Come see the Peanuts characters come to life this month on stage at the Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People. Recommended for ages 6 and up, this stage production is sure to please everyone in the family! Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People is located on Front Street near Sherbourne in downtown Toronto; visit the Theatre’s website (lktyp.com) for performance schedule, driving directions, and to buy your tickets ($9). Christmas in High Park at Colborne Lodge. Take a walk through High Park and visit Colborne Lodge for a cup of mulled cider and to learn about what a Victorian Christmas was like. Colborne Lodge is the Victorian house once owned by the founders of High Park and it is decorated in Victorian Christmas tradition and open for tours between 12pm and 4pm through to January 4, 2009. For those of you looking to get into the spirit of the holidays, make your way to the Yonge-Dundas Square this Sunday November 16 for the larger-than-life Santa Claus Parade! The Parade starts at 12:30pm but arrive early for a free grab ‘n go breakfast for the first 5,000 people to arrive at the square. There will also be live entertainment with a magician, Celebrity Clown, face painting, a live band, team mascots and celebrity photos and autographs. The Kidbits Professional Book Fair continues this weekend through to November 23 at the Central Library at 310 Burnhanthorpe Rd. W. Stop in with the whole family and see what your local library has to offer!

Come and check out the “Voices and the Band” live show at the Clarington pub this Saturday evening, November 15, for some great music, food, and drinks. Everyone is welcome! The show starts at 9pm and is free.

May we also recommend the Diwali Show 2008 presented by Shree Prajapati Mandal. The show takes place Sunday, November 16, at 2pm at Hammerson Hall. Fun Free Family Event: Word on the Street Festival in Toronto

The annual Word on the Street Festival is being held in Toronto’s Queen’s Park this weekend.  It is a wonderful bookand magazine festival that makes its way from Toronto to Kitchener, to Halifax and then Vancouver.

There will be lots of kid-centric booths and activities this year, including:

The Little Readers Tent: Experts play story-telling games with families and encourage early-literacy for kids under three.

Une Ville, des Mots/ The City of Words Marquee: Helps French come alive for children and includes readings by Canada’s top French authors.

Canadian Magazines Tent: Publishers share the secrets of the industry with interactive workshops for freelancers.

Children’s Reading Tent: Children’s authors offer story-telling sessions for kids, featuring Edo Van Belkom reading “Wolfman” and Sarah O’Leary with “Where You Came From.”

TVO Kids Stage: TVO hosts perform live and encourage your little ones to read.

Young Adult Marquee: Workshops aimed at young adults and teenagers.

Of course, there will be a lot of interesting booths and events for the adults, too!
